About This Role

National Jewish Health is hiring a Pulmonology Nurse Practitioner to join its outpatient respiratory medicine program — the nation's leading hospital for respiratory, cardiac, immune, and related diseases. You will manage patients with asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and lung cancer surveillance in a highly specialized academic outpatient environment.

Job Overview

  • Job Title: Pulmonology Nurse Practitioner
  • Company: National Jewish Health
  • Location: Denver, CO / Colorado Springs, CO / Los Angeles, CA / New York, NY / Houston, TX

Role Context

Pulmonology NPs at National Jewish Health practice within disease-specific programs — asthma and allergy, COPD and lung health, or ILD and rare lung disease — alongside nationally recognized pulmonologists and allergist-immunologists. You will interpret pulmonary function tests, manage inhaler and biologic therapy regimens, and serve as the primary follow-up contact for complex respiratory patients between specialist visits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate new and returning patients with asthma, COPD, ILD, and pulmonary hypertension
  • Manage inhaled corticosteroid, LABA/LAMA, and biologic therapy regimens (dupilumab, mepolizumab)
  • Interpret and act on pulmonary function tests (spirometry, DLCO, 6MWT)
  • Monitor oxygen therapy needs and coordinate pulmonary rehabilitation referrals
  • Conduct pulmonary hypertension surveillance including 6-minute walk tests and echo result reviews
  • Provide post-bronchoscopy and thoracentesis follow-up in collaboration with interventional pulmonology

Requirements & Skills

  • FNP-BC or ACNP-BC certification
  • Active Colorado NP license (or applicable state); DEA registration required
  • Pulmonary NP, critical care, or respiratory RN experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with biologic therapy indications for severe asthma and ILD treatments
  • Ability to review and interpret spirometry and body plethysmography results
  • Strong patient education skills for complex, life-altering respiratory diagnoses

Benefits & Work Conditions

  • $58–$76/hr commensurate with subspecialty experience
  • Outpatient-only schedule — no hospital call or night shifts
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • Generous CME allowance and access to National Jewish Health's world-class clinical education programs
  • Malpractice coverage fully provided
  • 403(b) retirement plan with employer match

Who Should Apply

This role is ideal for NPs with a passion for respiratory medicine and complex chronic disease management who want to practice within the nation's most specialized pulmonary care institution. Candidates with ICU, pulmonary rehab, or critical care RN backgrounds transitioning to NP roles are especially encouraged.
