Night shifts in hospital wards require calm, self-sufficient staff who can manage routine duties with minimal supervision while staying alert for patient needs and emergency situations. A night shift supplement is paid in addition to the base salary, making this one of the better-compensated hospital support roles at this level.

Role Context

Night shift runs from 9 PM to 7 AM. The ward is quieter than day shifts but requires equal attention — patients need repositioning, washroom assistance, and occasional emergency transport during the night hours. A ward nurse and duty doctor are always present, and you will be the primary physical support for the nursing team during this window. Most night shift ward boys manage 2 to 3 wards simultaneously with a roving circuit.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor the ward floor during night hours and respond to patient call bells promptly
• Assist patients who need washroom support or repositioning during the night
• Transport patients for emergency diagnostics or ICU transfer when instructed by the nurse
• Maintain ward cleanliness across the night shift — especially after any incident
• Replenish consumable stock at the start of the shift to avoid mid-night shortages
• Stay alert and report any unusual patient behaviour to the duty nurse immediately
• Handover ward status accurately to the incoming morning shift team

Requirements & Skills

• Minimum 10th pass
• Prior ward boy or hospital attendant experience preferred for night shift
• Physically fit and able to stay alert and active across a 10-hour night shift
• Basic Telugu or Hindi communication
• Reliable attendance — night shift gaps create direct patient safety risks
• Willing to commit to at least 6 months of night shift before requesting rotation
