About This Role

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking Neonatal Nurse Practitioners to join its Level IV NICU team — one of the busiest and most advanced neonatal programs in the country. You will provide around-the-clock advanced practice care to critically ill newborns including extremely premature infants, surgical neonates, and complex cardiac cases.

Role Context

CHOP's 100-bed Level IV NICU admits over 1,400 infants per year, including high-risk deliveries, transport admissions, and post-surgical neonates. NNPs rotate through 12-hour shifts across day, night, and weekend coverage and work within a collaborative team of neonatologists, fellows, and bedside RNs. CHOP's NNP model emphasizes procedural independence and active rounding participation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily care of assigned NICU patients including ventilator management and fluid/nutrition orders
  • Perform neonatal intubations, umbilical line placements, chest tube insertions, and LP procedures
  • Assess and respond to acute patient deterioration in collaboration with neonatology attendings
  • Provide family-centered communication and support for NICU parents
  • Participate in high-risk delivery team activations and stabilize newborns in the delivery room
  • Contribute to NICU quality improvement projects and evidence-based protocol development

Requirements & Skills

  • NNP board certification (NCC) required
  • Active Pennsylvania NP license and DEA registration
  • NRP certification required; STABLE program completion preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of NICU NNP experience preferred; new NNP graduates considered for fellowship track
  • Procedural competency in neonatal intubation, UAC/UVC, and chest tubes
  • Comfort managing ventilated, extremely premature, and surgically complex neonates
