Role Context

NPs at MD Anderson serve as pivotal members of disease-specific oncology teams — in breast, GI, leukemia, lymphoma, or thoracic cancer — depending on your specialty fit. You will manage symptom toxicities, order and interpret tumor markers and imaging, counsel patients on treatment timelines, and co-manage complex supportive care needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage oncology patients in outpatient clinic and infusion settings
  • Monitor treatment response and toxicity for patients on chemotherapy and targeted therapy
  • Order and interpret diagnostic labs, imaging, and molecular profiling results
  • Perform bone marrow biopsy assistance, lumbar punctures, and other procedures (with credentialing)
  • Provide urgent symptom triage for toxicity management via a dedicated NP triage line
  • Contribute to clinical trial patient management and protocol compliance monitoring

Requirements & Skills

  • FNP-BC, ACNP-BC, or AGACNP-BC; oncology certification (AOCNP) preferred
  • Texas NP license with prescriptive authority and DEA
  • 2+ years of oncology nursing or NP experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of chemotherapy agents, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy toxicities
  • ACLS certification; procedural training or willingness to obtain
  • Ability to discuss prognosis and goals of care in emotionally sensitive contexts
