Role Context

Acute Care NPs at Johns Hopkins function as core members of inpatient care teams, managing daily rounding responsibilities, procedure coordination, and discharge planning. Depending on your assigned unit — which may include general medicine, cardiac surgery step-down, or subspecialty services — you will carry a census of 8–14 patients per shift alongside an attending.

Key Responsibilities

  • Round daily on assigned inpatient panels and write progress notes and orders
  • Perform bedside procedures including central line placement, intubation assistance, and thoracentesis (with appropriate credentialing)
  • Manage complex patient presentations including sepsis, AKI, and decompensated heart failure
  • Lead discharge planning and coordinate with case management and social work
  • Supervise and precept nursing staff and advanced practice students
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and unit-based safety committees

Requirements & Skills

  • ACNP-BC or AGACNP-BC certification required
  • Active Maryland or DC NP license (multi-state compact a plus)
  • 2+ years of inpatient or ICU experience as NP or RN preferred
  • ACLS certification required; PALS a plus
  • Procedural credentialing history or willingness to train
  • Strong clinical reasoning and ability to function in a fast-paced academic environment
