Role Context

Athreon has provided medical transcription services to US healthcare facilities for over 30 years. Transcriptionists are assigned to specific client accounts — typically one to three hospitals or practices — allowing them to develop familiarity with individual physician dictation styles and facility-specific templates. Work volume is structured, with shift-based or flexible scheduling available.

Key Responsibilities

• Transcribe physician dictations including H&Ps, discharge summaries, and op reports
• Apply medical terminology, drug names, and anatomical terms accurately
• Follow client-specific templates, formatting rules, and turnaround requirements
• Produce HIPAA-compliant documents for integration into EHR systems
• Flag inconsistencies or unclear dictation for quality review
• Maintain production benchmarks measured in lines per hour

Requirements & Skills

• Completion of a medical transcription training program (AHDI-recognized preferred)
• Strong medical terminology knowledge across multiple specialties
• Typing speed of 60+ WPM with high accuracy
• Familiarity with EHR documentation and HIPAA privacy rules
• Ability to work assigned shifts reliably from a home office
• CMT or RHDS credential is a strong plus
