About This Role

MediCare India is hiring Medical Coding Executives for its Chennai health information management team. The role involves assigning accurate ICD-10 and CPT codes to physician documentation, supporting insurance claim processing, and maintaining coding quality standards across inpatient and outpatient records. Candidates with AHIMA CCS, CPC, or AAPC certification alongside one to three years of medical coding experience are preferred. Freshers with AAPC CPC or AHIMA CCA certification are also considered for this position.

Role Context

Reporting to the Coding Supervisor, you will work within a team of ten medical coders handling inpatient, outpatient, and surgical records for MediCare India's Chennai and Bangalore hospital facilities. Daily coding volume ranges from 40 to 70 records depending on record complexity. Coding accuracy is audited monthly, and coders are expected to maintain a minimum 95% accuracy rate. The team uses 3M and Optum360 encoder tools alongside the hospital's HIS platform for record access and coding workflow management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assign accurate ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes and CPT procedure codes to inpatient and outpatient records
  • Review physician documentation to identify principal diagnosis, secondary diagnoses, and procedures performed
  • Query physicians for documentation clarification when records lack specificity for accurate code assignment
  • Process surgical records with accurate modifier assignment for insurance claim submission
  • Meet daily coding productivity targets while maintaining accuracy rates above the 95% monthly benchmark
  • Participate in monthly coding audit sessions and implement feedback from quality review findings
  • Stay current on ICD-10 coding guideline updates and CPT annual revisions through continuing education
  • Coordinate with the billing team to resolve claim rejections caused by coding-related denial reasons

Requirements & Skills

  • AAPC CPC, AHIMA CCA, CCS, or equivalent medical coding certification is required
  • 1–3 years of medical coding experience across inpatient or outpatient records preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of ICD-10-CM official coding guidelines and CPT code selection rules
  • Familiarity with 3M encoder, Optum360, or a comparable medical coding software tool
  • Understanding of insurance claim requirements, modifiers, and common denial reason codes
  • Accurate, detail-oriented approach to code selection with documentation support for every code assigned
  • Ability to meet daily coding volume benchmarks without compromising quality or documentation query standards
