About This Role

ByteForge India is hiring a Software Developer for its Pune office to work on SaaS-based HR and payroll management products. The company builds cloud-hosted workforce management platforms used by mid-size businesses across India, and this role is part of a cross-functional squad focused on core payroll calculation, statutory compliance modules, and employee self-service features. The team works in short iteration cycles with an emphasis on test coverage and clean APIs throughout.

Role Context

As part of a seven-person product team, you will report to the Product Engineering Lead and collaborate with UI developers, QA engineers, and a product analyst. The payroll domain has strict compliance requirements — TDS, PF, ESI, and CTC structures require precise implementation. You will be expected to understand these rules well enough to implement them correctly, not just code to a specification. Approximately 60% of your work involves new features, with the rest covering bug fixes, compliance updates, and refactoring as tax rules change each financial year.

Key Responsibilities

Develop backend APIs for payroll processing, attendance integration, and leave management
Implement tax computation logic for TDS, PF, and ESI deductions per current Indian regulations
Build and maintain database schemas for employee records, payroll cycles, and compliance data
Write unit tests for all new computation logic and participate in peer code review cycles
Investigate and fix payroll discrepancies reported by QA or client support teams
Collaborate with the frontend team to define API structures for employee self-service features
Maintain documentation for computation rules, API changes, and compliance logic updates
Support QA during pre-release payroll cycle testing and edge case verification rounds

Requirements & Skills

1–3 years of backend development experience in Java, Python, or Node.js
Understanding of Indian payroll concepts including TDS, PF, ESI, and CTC calculations preferred
Strong SQL skills including schema design and complex query writing for financial data
Ability to implement rule-based computation logic with solid test coverage
Familiarity with REST API design and integration with third-party HR or attendance systems
Strong attention to detail especially when working with financial and compliance calculations
Comfort reading and implementing statutory compliance requirements from official documentation

Monthly compensation of ₹25,000–₹50,000 depending on experience and demonstrated skills
