Role Context

Paychex Payroll Tax Analysts manage a portfolio of client accounts and are responsible for the accuracy of their tax filings, deposits, and reconciliations in all states. You will use Paychex's proprietary tax platform and receive 6 weeks of structured onboarding covering federal and multi-state payroll tax law before going live on client accounts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, reconcile, and file quarterly 941, SUTA, and state income tax withholding returns
  • Ensure timely federal and state payroll tax deposits for client accounts
  • Investigate IRS and state tax agency notices and prepare client response letters
  • Reconcile W-2 and 1099 data at year-end and coordinate timely distribution
  • Identify payroll tax discrepancies and work with payroll specialists to resolve
  • Stay current on federal and state payroll tax law changes through Paychex tax updates

Requirements & Skills

  • Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • Basic knowledge of payroll tax concepts or eagerness to learn through structured training
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort managing multiple client deadlines
  • Excel proficiency for reconciliation and data validation
  • Professional communication for IRS notice responses and client interactions
  • CPP or FPC certification is a plus; Paychex provides study resources
