Role Context

Morgan Stanley Finance Analysts are assigned to product-specific controllers, FP&A teams, or treasury functions. You will work on a small team (4–8 people) with direct access to VPs and Directors. The culture values accuracy, professional communication, and continuous improvement of reporting processes. Analysts are expected to own their deliverables with minimal supervision by month three.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support monthly and quarterly financial close processes for assigned business units
  • Produce management reporting packages including revenue, expense, and headcount analysis
  • Perform detailed variance analysis and prepare written commentary for senior leadership
  • Reconcile inter-company balances and investigate discrepancies with operations teams
  • Assist in regulatory reporting submissions to FINRA, SEC, and the Federal Reserve
  • Continuously improve report templates and financial models for efficiency

Requirements & Skills

  • Bachelor's in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related quantitative field
  • Strong financial modeling skills in Excel; VBA or Python is a plus
  • Understanding of financial statement analysis and accounting conventions
  • High accuracy standards and ability to self-review work before submission
  • Professional written communication suitable for executive-level audiences
  • Banking internship or relevant coursework in corporate finance
