Job Description

HomeOffice Canada is a virtual accounting and advisory firm that serves small and medium-sized businesses across every province. Our bookkeeping team handles everything from daily transaction recording to payroll and sales tax filings — all 100% remotely. We are currently expanding our team and are seeking a skilled part-time Remote Bookkeeper who can manage a portfolio of three to five small business clients from their home office.

This is not a basic data-entry role. You will own the books for your assigned clients, communicating regularly with business owners and collaborating with our senior accountants during month-end. You need to be comfortable working independently, asking clarifying questions when numbers do not add up, and delivering clean, timely financial records that our clients and their CPAs can rely on.

Day-to-Day Activities:

You will log into QuickBooks Online or Xero each morning, reconcile transactions from the previous day, respond to client queries via email, and flag any unusual entries to the senior accountant assigned to your portfolio. Month-end involves producing bank reconciliations, AR/AP aging reports, and a preliminary profit-and-loss statement for each client.

Responsibilities:

  • Record daily income and expense transactions for assigned client accounts using QuickBooks Online or Xero
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and loan accounts on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Process accounts payable and receivable including issuing invoices and following up on overdue amounts
  • Run bi-weekly payroll for clients with up to ten employees
  • Prepare and file GST/HST and PST remittances on time
  • Produce monthly financial reports including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow summary
  • Liaise directly with clients to gather missing receipts, clarify transactions, and communicate financial health
  • Coordinate with senior accountants during quarterly reviews and year-end preparation

Required Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in bookkeeping, accounting, or a related financial field
  • Minimum two years of hands-on bookkeeping experience, preferably for multiple clients
  • Certified Bookkeeper (CB) designation or equivalent is strongly preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online; Xero experience is a bonus
  • Solid understanding of Canadian tax obligations including GST/HST, payroll deductions, and T4s
  • Exceptional accuracy, discretion, and ability to meet firm deadlines
