About SSC CGL 2026
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) 2026 notification for recruitment to Group B and Group C posts in various Central Government Ministries, Departments, and Organisations. SSC CGL is one of the most prestigious government examinations in India and offers graduates a direct path to a secure government career with excellent pay, benefits, and job stability. If you are a graduate aged between 18 and 32, you are eligible to apply.
Posts Available Under SSC CGL 2026
- Income Tax Inspector – Income Tax Department. Pay Level 7 (₹44,900 basic). Age: 18–30.
- Central Excise Inspector – CBIC. Pay Level 7 (₹44,900 basic). Age: 18–30.
- Assistant Section Officer – MEA, AFHQ, and other Ministries. Pay Level 6 (₹35,400 basic). Age: 20–30.
- Junior Statistical Investigator (JSI) – M/o Statistics. Pay Level 6 (₹35,400 basic). Age: 32 max.
- Sub-Inspector (CBI) – Central Bureau of Investigation. Pay Level 6 (₹35,400 basic). Age: 20–30.
- Tax Assistant – CBDT/CBIC. Pay Level 4 (₹25,500 basic). Age: 18–27.
- Upper Division Clerk (UDC) – Various Departments. Pay Level 4 (₹25,500 basic). Age: 18–27.
In-Hand Salary (CTC Including Allowances)
Gross salary includes basic pay, HRA (8–24% of basic), DA (currently 55% of basic), and TA. Approximate in-hand:
- Pay Level 4 posts (Tax Assistant, UDC): ₹32,000 – ₹45,000 per month
- Pay Level 6 posts (ASO, JSI, SI-CBI): ₹48,000 – ₹65,000 per month
- Pay Level 7 posts (Inspector IT/Excise): ₹60,000 – ₹80,000 per month
Eligibility
- Graduation in any discipline from a recognized university — appearing students in final year also eligible to apply
- Age: 18 to 32 years (varies by post) as of the application closing date
- Age relaxation: SC/ST — 5 years; OBC — 3 years; PwD — 10 years
- Citizenship: Indian citizen (with exceptions for certain border state residents)
Exam Pattern
- Tier 1 (CBE): 100 questions, 200 marks — General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English (60 minutes)
- Tier 2 (CBE): Paper I (Maths + Reasoning + English + General Awareness) compulsory for all. Paper II (Statistics) for JSI. Paper III (Finance/Economics) for AAO.
- Skill Tests: Typing test or DEST for specific posts
