ESG Research Analyst – Sustainalytics (Morningstar)
Sustainalytics, a Morningstar Company, is a leading provider of ESG research, ratings, and data — covering 20,000+ companies globally with its ESG Risk Ratings and Controversy Research. Sustainalytics' research is used by 1,000+ institutional investors managing $40+ trillion in assets. We are hiring ESG Research Analysts in New York to research and rate companies' ESG risk profiles across assigned industry sectors.
Responsibilities
- Research and rate the ESG Risk Ratings of assigned companies across a defined industry coverage universe
- Analyze annual reports, sustainability reports, CDP submissions, and regulatory filings to assess material ESG risk exposure
- Assess companies' management of material ESG risks including carbon emissions, supply chain labor, data security, and product safety
- Monitor ESG controversy events (environmental incidents, labor violations, governance failures) affecting rated companies
- Conduct company engagement calls to verify data and discuss ESG risk management practices
- Produce written research summaries and rating rationales for Sustainalytics' institutional investor clients
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Environmental Science, or Sustainability
- Understanding of ESG concepts and sustainability frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD)
- Strong research and analytical writing skills for ESG report production
- Proficiency in Excel and ability to manage large datasets
- Detail-oriented with ability to maintain research quality across a large company coverage universe
