Accountant – Revenue Accounting – Southwest Airlines
Southwest Airlines is America's largest domestic air carrier, serving 100+ destinations with a fleet of 800+ Boeing 737 aircraft and $26B in annual revenue. Southwest's Finance team in Dallas, TX is hiring an entry-level Accountant in our Revenue Accounting department — managing the complex revenue recognition and passenger liability accounting for one of the most unique airline business models in the industry.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily and monthly revenue accounting activities including passenger revenue recognition, air traffic liability (ATL), and breakage analysis
- Reconcile passenger revenue from Southwest's reservation systems (SABRE) to the general ledger
- Prepare journal entries for frequent flyer (Rapid Rewards) program revenue recognition under ASC 606
- Assist with quarterly and annual revenue disclosures and SEC reporting (10-Q, 10-K)
- Support revenue accounting system implementations and automation initiatives
- Coordinate with revenue management, customer relations, and IT teams on revenue data quality issues
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (CPA candidate preferred)
- Strong Excel and data reconciliation skills
- Interest in airline or travel industry accounting; revenue recognition experience is a plus
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills for managing high-volume transaction data
