Staff Accountant – Insurance Finance – State Farm
State Farm is America's largest auto and home insurer, protecting 90 million policies and accounts. State Farm's Finance Center in Bloomington, IL manages statutory and GAAP accounting for one of the largest financial services enterprises in North America. We are hiring Staff Accountants to support insurance industry statutory accounting, regulatory reporting, and investment accounting functions.
Responsibilities
- Prepare statutory financial statements filed with state insurance regulators under NAIC Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)
- Record and reconcile investment accounting transactions including bonds, equities, mortgage loans, and derivatives
- Assist with GAAP-to-statutory reconciliations and related disclosure preparation
- Prepare insurance regulatory filings including Annual Statement, Quarterly Statement, and risk-based capital reports
- Support internal and external audits with timely preparation of requested schedules and workpapers
- Monitor changes in insurance accounting standards (NAIC, FASB) and assess impact on State Farm's financial statements
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA candidate (exam support provided)
- Interest in insurance industry accounting; knowledge of statutory accounting principles (SAP) is a plus
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Oracle Financials experience a plus
