Staff Accountant – General Motors
General Motors is transforming transportation with its bold vision to achieve an all-electric future, including the Chevrolet Bolt, GMC Hummer EV, and Cadillac LYRIQ. GM's global Finance organization supports $156B in revenue across automotive, OnStar, and financial services. We are hiring Staff Accountants to support GM's global accounting and controllership functions in Detroit, MI.
Responsibilities
- Perform month-end close journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis for assigned general ledger areas
- Support preparation of internal management reports tracking vehicle production costs, warranty expenses, and capital expenditures
- Assist with quarterly consolidation process across GM's global subsidiaries
- Maintain SOX 302 and 404 internal controls compliance and update process documentation
- Coordinate with plant finance teams, treasury, and tax to gather information for monthly financial packages
- Support external audit requests from GM's Big 4 auditors during quarterly and annual audits
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (CPA candidate preferred)
- Understanding of cost accounting, manufacturing accounting, or automotive industry experience is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort working with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP)
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work under tight financial close deadlines
- Team player with good communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
