This means Dashers in Chicago have a wider variety of order types throughout the day, including morning grocery runs and afternoon convenience pickups that fill the gaps between traditional meal delivery windows.

Role Context

Chicago Dashers work across distinct neighborhoods — Lincoln Park, Wicker Park, Logan Square, the Loop, Hyde Park, and the South Side all have different demand patterns. Grocery and DashMart orders tend to be larger and heavier than restaurant orders but carry higher base pay and better tips. Winter in Chicago is a real factor — some Dashers earn significantly more during cold months because fewer people want to go out, driving app order volume up sharply from November through February.

Key Responsibilities

Accept grocery, convenience, and restaurant delivery orders through the Dasher app
Navigate to pickup locations — grocery stores, DashMart facilities, or restaurants — and collect orders accurately
Check bag completeness for grocery orders before leaving the store when permitted
Handle heavier grocery bags with care and deliver within the customer's requested time window
Follow age verification steps for any alcohol items included in a grocery or convenience order
Complete contactless or in-person handoffs based on customer preference indicated in the app

Requirements & Skills

Valid Illinois driving licence and insured vehicle in good working condition
Physical ability to carry grocery bags of up to 30 pounds from store to customer door
Smartphone with active data plan for app-based order management
21 or older if you plan to accept alcohol delivery orders (optional order type)
Comfortable driving in Chicago city traffic and winter road conditions
