About This Role
EduFirst India is hiring an Evening Library Assistant for our Chennai learning centre library. You will manage book circulation, assist students with research and reference queries, maintain catalogues, and ensure the library is a well-organised, quiet, and productive study environment during evening hours. This is an ideal role for library science students, graduates, and book lovers who are available for evening work in Chennai.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage book issue and return transactions using the library management system during evening hours
- Assist students and faculty in locating reference books, journals, and digital resources for their research needs
- Maintain accurate records of borrowed, returned, lost, and overdue library items
- Catalogue and process new acquisitions including stamping, classification, labelling, and data entry into the library system
- Organise shelves, ensure all books are in correct Dewey Decimal order, and conduct periodic stock verification
- Monitor student behaviour in the library and maintain a quiet, disciplined study atmosphere during peak evening hours
- Prepare and maintain reports on library usage, popular titles, and acquisition recommendations
Required Skills and Qualifications
- B.Lib.Sc., M.Lib.Sc., or any degree with a diploma/certificate in Library Science
- Familiarity with library management software and basic cataloguing principles (Dewey Decimal, MARC)
- Good reading knowledge of English and Tamil for assisting students with bilingual research queries
- Organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable with repetitive cataloguing and classification tasks
- Calm, approachable personality suitable for maintaining a focused library environment

- Part-time evening salary of ₹8,000–₹13,000 per month
