Hardware Development Engineer

Flex Ltd

Full-time Hybrid United States

Job Description

About This Role

Flex Ltd is hiring a Hardware Development Engineer to support new product introduction (NPI) and manufacturing engineering for electronics manufactured on behalf of medical device, automotive, and industrial customers. You will bridge the gap between customer hardware designs and high-volume manufacturing, ensuring that complex PCB assemblies can be built reliably at scale.

Job Overview

  • Job Title: Hardware Development Engineer
  • Company: Flex Ltd
  • Location: Austin, TX / San Jose, CA / Salt Lake City, UT / Milpitas, CA / Columbia, SC
  • Job Type: Full-time
  • Experience Level: Entry to Mid-level (0–3 years)
  • Salary Range: $32–$46/hr
  • Posted Date: 2026-06-07
  • Application Deadline: 2026-07-07

Role Context

Flex operates as a contract electronics manufacturer (EMS) for customers including medical device OEMs, automotive tier-1 suppliers, and industrial automation companies. Hardware development engineers at Flex work on both the customer-facing side (DFM feedback and design review) and the factory side (test fixture development and process engineering). You will manage multiple customer programs simultaneously and see products go from prototypes to thousands of units per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review customer hardware designs for design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and provide written feedback
  • Develop automated test fixture hardware and ICT (in-circuit test) programs for new assemblies
  • Support NPI builds from EVT through mass production ramp at Flex manufacturing sites
  • Conduct failure analysis on PCBAs returned from customers and production lines
  • Collaborate with process engineering on solder paste, reflow profile, and assembly process optimization
  • Maintain hardware documentation including test procedures, BOM revisions, and engineering change orders

Requirements & Skills

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering Technology
  • Understanding of PCB assembly processes: SMT, reflow, wave solder, press-fit
  • Experience with ICT, flying probe, or functional test fixture development is a plus
  • Hands-on debug skills using oscilloscopes, DMMs, and benchtop instruments
  • Ability to read and interpret complex PCB schematics and assembly drawings
  • Organized, process-driven mindset suited to a manufacturing environment

Benefits & Work Conditions

  • $32–$46/hr with Flex annual bonus and stock purchase plan
  • Hybrid schedule with manufacturing floor access as needed
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance from hire date
  • 401(k) with Flex match and tuition reimbursement
  • Broad exposure to diverse industries and product types

Who Should Apply

Engineers who want broad exposure to hardware across multiple industries and product types in a single role. Flex's EMS model means you work on medical devices, industrial automation hardware, and automotive electronics simultaneously — building a diverse portfolio that many OEM roles cannot match for early-career breadth.
