Seagate Technology
Seagate Technology is hiring an HDD Hardware Design Engineer to work on read/write channel electronics, servo systems, and spindle motor control hardware for hard disk drives deployed in hyperscale cloud data centers. You will contribute to the hardware that stores the majority of the world's persistent data.
Seagate's HDD electronics teams design the read/write channel ASICs, preamplifier ICs, and servo controller circuits that enable accurate data writing and reading at aerial densities of 3+ Terabits per square inch. The Bloomington, MN campus focuses on read/write head electronics and servo systems, while Fremont handles system integration and qualification. Engineers work on physical phenomena at the edge of what magnetic recording theory permits.
Engineers interested in the physics of magnetic recording and the analog circuits that operate at its limits. Seagate is one of only two companies designing HDD electronics at scale (with Western Digital), making this one of the most specialized hardware engineering domains available — and one that develops genuinely rare skills.
Seagate Technology is one of the world's two largest HDD manufacturers, producing Exos enterprise drives used by every major hyperscale cloud provider. Its Lyve Cloud storage-as-a-service platform extends its reach into data management, and its HAMR (heat-assisted magnetic recording) technology enables the next generation of HDD density beyond conventional perpendicular recording.
Apply at Seagate Careers. Search "Hardware Engineer." Interviews cover analog circuit fundamentals, signal processing concepts, and a discussion of physical layer challenges in magnetic recording relevant to the team's work area.
