About This Role

Banaras Silk House is hiring a Handloom Production Supervisor to oversee weaving operations at its manufacturing unit in the Madanpura area of Varanasi. Banarasi silk weaving is a GI-tagged craft and a backbone of Varanasi's economy. This role is for experienced candidates who understand pit loom or jacquard loom operations and can manage a team of skilled artisan weavers. Knowledge of zari work and brocade patterns is a strong advantage.

Role Context

You will supervise 20–30 weavers across a unit producing sarees, dress materials, and fabric for export buyers. Your role involves planning the weaving schedule based on order requirements, maintaining thread and yarn stock, inspecting finished fabric for quality, and coordinating with the design team for new pattern implementations. Peak order periods are Diwali, wedding season (November–February), and export dispatch cycles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan daily and weekly weaving production schedule based on pending orders
  • Brief weavers on new designs and ensure correct colour and pattern setup on looms
  • Inspect finished fabric against buyer samples for quality before packing
  • Maintain yarn and zari inventory and raise requisitions before stock runs low
  • Record daily output per weaver and prepare weekly production summary
  • Coordinate with the design team on jacquard card preparation for new patterns

Requirements & Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in handloom production supervision or as a master weaver
  • Knowledge of Banarasi weaving techniques — brocade, cutwork, or meenakari
  • Ability to read and interpret weaving design drafts
  • Experience managing a team of artisan workers
  • Basic Hindi literacy for record-keeping
  • Varanasi resident with deep knowledge of the local weaving ecosystem

Banaras Silk House has been producing and exporting Banarasi silk sarees and fabric for over 35 years. We supply to boutiques and export buyers in India, the UK, and the Middle East. Our Madanpura unit employs 85 weavers and artisans and maintains the traditional craft standards that the Banarasi GI tag demands.
