Role Context
SRE at Google sits at the intersection of software engineering and operations. Associate SREs rotate through teams and learn Google's production environment hands-on. You will be expected to write automation code, respond to incidents, and drive improvements that reduce toil and increase reliability across distributed systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor production systems and respond to alerts and on-call incidents
- Write automation scripts and tools in Python or Go to reduce manual toil
- Participate in postmortems and drive blameless incident reviews
- Collaborate with software engineering teams on reliability design for new features
- Instrument services with metrics, logging, and distributed tracing
- Contribute to capacity planning and SLO/SLA definition for owned services
Requirements & Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field
- Solid programming skills in Python, Go, Java, or C++
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix systems and networking fundamentals
- Understanding of distributed systems concepts (load balancing, replication, consensus)
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure or container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker)
