Role Context

Airbnb data scientists are embedded in product or operations teams and own the metrics, measurement, and modeling for their area. You will be a key analytical voice in team discussions — running experiments, monitoring KPIs, and building models that inform decisions from pricing algorithms to safety interventions. DS-I scientists have real ownership but work alongside experienced mentors.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze marketplace data to identify trends, friction points, and optimization opportunities
• Design and evaluate A/B experiments for product and algorithm changes
• Develop predictive models for demand forecasting, fraud detection, or dynamic pricing
• Build dashboards and automated reports for team and leadership consumption
• Write efficient SQL and Python pipelines on Airbnb's Hive and Spark infrastructure
• Collaborate with engineers to define data schemas and instrument new features

Requirements & Skills

• Bachelor's or Master's in Statistics, Economics, Data Science, or Computer Science
• Strong SQL skills — experience with large event-driven datasets
• Python proficiency for statistical analysis and modeling
• Solid understanding of A/B testing — setup, power calculations, and interpretation
• Ability to turn ambiguous questions into structured analyses and clear recommendations
• Marketplace or two-sided platform analytics experience is a plus
