Role Context

Microsoft differentiates between Data Scientists (analytics-focused) and Applied Scientists (model-focused). New grads in this program rotate through team matches based on skills and interests. You will have access to Azure compute, internal experimentation platforms, and cross-functional project teams from your first sprint.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and analyze online experiments (A/B and multivariate tests) for product teams
• Develop predictive models using Python, Spark, or Azure ML
• Mine telemetry and usage data to identify growth opportunities and friction points
• Collaborate with PMs to define success metrics and measurement frameworks
• Build automated reporting pipelines using Azure Data Factory or SQL
• Document methodologies and communicate results in team reviews

Requirements & Skills

• Bachelor's or Master's in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or Operations Research (2025–2026 grad)
• Strong Python programming skills, especially pandas, scikit-learn, and matplotlib
• Solid SQL proficiency for working with large relational datasets
• Understanding of experimental design, statistical significance, and causal inference
• Familiarity with cloud data platforms (Azure a plus)
• Good communication and ability to translate insights into business language
