Role Context

FAIR (Fundamental AI Research) operates with academic-style freedom inside Meta — researchers set their own agendas, collaborate with universities, and publish openly. NLP researchers here work on everything from pre-training large language models to alignment, evaluation, multilingual understanding, and retrieval-augmented generation. You will have access to significant GPU compute and partner with product teams when your research is ready to transfer.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct original research on language models, NLP systems, or related AI topics
• Design and execute experiments at scale using Meta's compute infrastructure
• Publish findings at top-tier venues (NeurIPS, ACL, ICLR, EMNLP)
• Collaborate with applied ML teams to transfer research breakthroughs into products
• Mentor research engineers and interns within the team
• Contribute to open-source model releases and research artifacts

Requirements & Skills

• PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Linguistics, or a closely related field
• Strong publication record at top AI/NLP conferences
• Deep expertise in transformer architectures, large language models, or NLP evaluation
• Proficiency in PyTorch and experience training large-scale neural models
• Ability to lead research projects independently and communicate findings clearly
• Experience collaborating with engineering teams on research productionization is a plus
