About This Role

Andela is looking for an Entry-Level Backend Developer (Node.js) to work remotely on API development and server-side services for US product teams. You will build and maintain RESTful APIs, work with databases, and contribute to the backend architecture of live applications.

Role Context

You will join a backend squad that owns the API layer for a B2B SaaS product. The stack is Node.js, Express, PostgreSQL, and Redis. Seniors on the team are approachable and conduct structured code reviews. Deployment is handled via GitHub Actions and AWS, and you will be introduced to the CI/CD pipeline early in your onboarding.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain RESTful API endpoints using Node.js and Express
• Write SQL queries and work with PostgreSQL or MySQL databases
• Implement input validation, error handling, and basic authentication middleware
• Write integration tests and contribute to the team's test coverage goals
• Debug and resolve backend issues reported by QA or production monitoring
• Document API endpoints using Swagger or equivalent tooling

Requirements & Skills

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent
• Working knowledge of Node.js, Express, and JavaScript (ES6+)
• Basic SQL skills — writing queries, joins, and understanding schemas
• Familiarity with REST API design principles
• Understanding of Git-based workflows (branches, PRs, merges)
• Good problem-solving instincts and willingness to ask questions
