Role Context

Applied Scientists at Amazon own both the modeling and the deployment of their solutions. You will sit in a two-pizza team, working directly with software engineers and product managers to translate ML experiments into live product features. Expect high ownership from your first month.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and run experiments to improve ML model performance on business metrics
• Build data pipelines for model training, evaluation, and offline testing
• Collaborate with SDE partners to deploy models into production services
• Conduct literature reviews to identify applicable research for team problems
• Write technical design documents and present findings to stakeholders
• Monitor live model performance and iterate based on A/B test results

Requirements & Skills

• Master's or Bachelor's in CS, Statistics, Applied Math, or a related quantitative field
• Strong machine learning fundamentals — regression, classification, ranking, deep learning
• Python proficiency with hands-on experience in scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow
• Comfort with SQL and large-scale data processing (Spark or similar)
• Experience applying ML in at least one academic or project setting end-to-end
• Ability to communicate technical work clearly in writing and verbal presentations
