Role Context

Cummins' US engine plants produce high-performance diesel and natural gas engines for on-highway trucks, off-highway equipment, and marine applications. Entry-level manufacturing engineers are assigned to a specific engine family or manufacturing cell and are responsible for machining processes, assembly operations, or engine testing sequences. Cummins invests heavily in its early-career engineers through a formal development program that includes mentor assignment, leadership training, and structured project goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for engine machining, assembly, or test operations
  • Author and maintain process control plans, work instructions, and reaction plans
  • Analyze production data to identify process capability gaps and drive improvement actions
  • Support new engine product launches and model year change-overs
  • Lead Lean manufacturing projects to reduce cycle time, scrap, and rework
  • Coordinate with tooling suppliers and maintenance teams on cutting tool and fixture performance
  • Participate in Cummins' Operating System reviews and present process performance metrics

Requirements & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering
  • Coursework or project experience in machining, engine systems, or manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with GD&T, SPC, and PFMEA concepts
  • CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA) is a plus
  • Strong data analysis skills; familiarity with Minitab or JMP is beneficial
  • US work authorization required
