About This Role

Wabtec Corporation (formerly GE Transportation) is hiring Entry Level Manufacturing Engineers to support production of freight and passenger locomotives, rail components, and digital rail systems. You will develop and optimize the processes behind the locomotives that haul 40% of US freight — at one of the most specialized manufacturing operations in American industrial history.

Role Context

Wabtec's Erie, PA locomotive factory is one of the largest in the world — producing GE-designed Evolution Series and Tier 4 locomotives for Class I railroads like BNSF, Union Pacific, and CSX. Kansas City and Chicago sites focus on rail component overhaul, retrofit, and digital systems installation. Entry-level manufacturing engineers at Wabtec work on complex electromechanical assembly processes and are expected to engage regularly with skilled trades machinists and assembly technicians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain manufacturing process instructions for locomotive assembly, traction motors, and power electronics
  • Support new locomotive model introductions and engine technology upgrades
  • Analyze production cycle time and quality data to drive process improvements
  • Coordinate with industrial engineering on work cell layout and capacity planning
  • Investigate non-conformances and lead 8D corrective action processes
  • Develop capital justification documents for tooling and equipment investments
  • Interface with customer technical teams during locomotive acceptance testing

Requirements & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering
  • Interest in large mechanical or electromechanical systems manufacturing
  • Comfort working in heavy industrial manufacturing environments
  • CAD proficiency and ability to read complex mechanical and electrical schematics
  • Strong analytical mindset and ability to communicate technical information clearly
  • US work authorization required
