About This Role

Caterpillar India is hiring fresh graduates as Supply Chain Coordinators within its Global Supply Chain & Purchasing organization. You will support procurement, supplier management, and parts supply operations for Caterpillar's India manufacturing and service operations — contributing to supply chain reliability for one of the world's largest manufacturers of construction, mining, and energy equipment.

Role Context

Caterpillar India operates manufacturing facilities in Thiruvallur, Hosur, and Pune producing excavators, backhoe loaders, and gensets — and manages one of the most extensive aftermarket parts supply chains in India for its dealer and customer service network. Caterpillar's supply chain team manages global and local component sourcing from a 800+ India supplier base alongside international supply from Caterpillar's global manufacturing network. The complexity of heavy equipment supply chain — long lead times, high-value components, global logistics, and aftermarket parts availability — creates distinctive supply chain challenges that develop deep technical purchasing and materials management expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Support strategic sourcing activities — supplier identification, RFQ/RFP preparation, bid evaluation, and supplier negotiations for mechanical and electrical component categories
• Manage purchase order processing, delivery scheduling, and expediting for production-critical components in Caterpillar's ERP system
• Monitor supplier delivery performance — on-time delivery, quality PPM, and OTIF for assigned supplier portfolios
• Coordinate inbound logistics — inland freight from Indian suppliers and international imports from Caterpillar's global network
• Support material planning — MRP analysis, safety stock management, and shortage prevention for assigned component categories
• Assist in supplier development — conducting supplier capability assessments and tracking corrective action plans for quality or delivery issues

Requirements & Skills

• B.E./B.Tech (Mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering) — 2024/2025 batch
• Understanding of manufacturing procurement — strategic sourcing, supplier management, and MRP
• SAP MM or Oracle purchasing system knowledge is a strong advantage
• Good understanding of mechanical components — engines, hydraulics, electrical systems for heavy equipment is advantageous
• Excel proficiency for supplier data analysis and cost comparison
• Strong analytical and negotiation aptitude
