Full-time Remote United States

Job Description

Machine Learning Data Scientist – New Grad – H2O.ai

H2O.ai is the open-source machine learning and AI cloud company — creator of H2O, the world's most widely used open-source ML platform downloaded 20+ million times, and Driverless AI, the enterprise AutoML system used by 20,000+ organizations including AT&T, Comcast, and Capital One. H2O.ai recently launched H2O.ai Danube (open-source LLMs) and the H2O AI Cloud GenAI platform. The company is a pioneer in democratizing AI — making state-of-the-art machine learning accessible to every data scientist, not just researchers with PhDs. We are hiring New Grad ML Data Scientists to develop AI solutions and conduct applied ML research on H2O.ai's platform.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct applied ML research experiments benchmarking H2O Driverless AI's automated feature engineering and model selection against manual gradient boosting and neural network baselines
  • Develop H2O-3 machine learning models using H2O's distributed ML algorithms — GBM, XGBoost, GLM, Random Forest, Deep Learning — for customer use case demonstrations
  • Build H2O.ai GenAI application demos using H2O's open-source Danube LLMs — implementing enterprise RAG, summarization, and document Q&A solutions on H2O AI Cloud
  • Create Kaggle competition entries, ML benchmarks, and technical tutorials showcasing H2O's AutoML capabilities for the data science community
  • Support H2O.ai's enterprise customers implementing fraud detection, churn prediction, and credit scoring models on the H2O AI Cloud platform
  • Contribute to H2O's open-source Python and R client libraries — adding new features, fixing bugs, and improving documentation for the ML community

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or Mathematics
  • Python and R proficiency for ML model development and statistical analysis
  • Experience with H2O-3, scikit-learn, XGBoost, or other ML frameworks
  • Strong statistical foundations — model evaluation, cross-validation, feature importance, and bias-variance tradeoff
  • Kaggle competition experience or open-source ML contributions are a strong differentiator

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with H2O.ai equity
  • H2O Driverless AI and H2O AI Cloud access for personal ML development
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • 401(k) with H2O.ai contribution
  • Fully remote with Mountain View, CA base and global team collaboration
