Data Scientist – Population Health (New Grad) – Elevance Health

We are hiring New Grad Data Scientists to join Elevance's Data and Analytics Center of Excellence.
Responsibilities
- Build population health stratification models segmenting Elevance's 46M+ members by chronic disease burden, social risk factors, and predicted health trajectory for care program targeting
- Develop Medicaid social determinants of health (SDOH) analytics — integrating census, housing, food access, and employment data with medical claims for vulnerable population health programs
- Analyze emergency department utilization patterns to build avoidable ED visit predictors enabling proactive primary care redirection interventions
- Develop maternal health risk models identifying high-risk pregnancies for Elevance's special delivery care management program reducing maternal mortality
- Build opioid use disorder (OUD) risk models identifying members at risk of developing addiction from prescription patterns for early intervention outreach
- Support Elevance's CMS quality bonus program analytics — building HEDIS measure improvement models to increase Elevance's Medicare Advantage Star Rating
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Public Health, Biostatistics, or Statistics
- Python and SQL proficiency for healthcare data analysis
- Familiarity with healthcare claims data, ICD-10 coding, and healthcare quality measures (HEDIS, CAHPS)
- Understanding of Medicaid, Medicare, or commercial insurance programs is a plus
- Passion for health equity and using data science to improve healthcare access for underserved populations
