Data Scientist – Financial Services (New Grad) – USAA

We are hiring New Grad Data Scientists in San Antonio to build the AI and analytics capabilities protecting and serving America's military community.
Responsibilities
- Build ML models for credit risk assessment — predicting mortgage default, auto loan delinquency, and credit card charge-off probability from USAA member financial data
- Develop personalized financial planning recommendation models — identifying the right insurance coverage, investment allocation, and banking products for members at different life stages
- Build auto and property insurance fraud detection models — identifying staged accidents, inflated repair claims, and identity theft schemes from claims history and IoT data
- Develop military deployment prediction models — identifying members likely to face financial hardship during deployment and proactively flagging them for USAA's dedicated military financial advisors
- Analyze voice and text data from USAA's call center interactions using NLP to improve member service resolution, detect financial distress signals, and optimize IVR routing
- Build customer lifetime value models and churn prediction classifiers enabling USAA's retention team to proactively serve at-risk members
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, or Computer Science
- Python and SQL proficiency for model development and data analysis
- Understanding of financial services concepts — credit risk, insurance pricing, or investment management
- Experience with ML frameworks (scikit-learn, XGBoost, LightGBM) for classification and regression problems
- Eligibility to work with USAA (US citizenship or permanent residency required; USAA serves the US military community)
