Data Scientist – Translational Medicine (New Grad) – Bristol-Myers Squibb
Bristol-Myers Squibb (NYSE: BMY) is a global biopharmaceutical company that transforms patients' lives through science — with breakthrough medicines in oncology (Opdivo, Yervoy, Revlimid), cardiovascular disease, and immunology. BMS pioneered immuno-oncology by developing the first checkpoint inhibitor (Yervoy) and has built one of the world's most successful cancer immunotherapy franchises. BMS's Translational Medicine and Biomarker teams use spatial genomics, single-cell sequencing, and AI to identify why some cancer patients respond to immunotherapy while others do not — one of the most important data science questions in medicine. We are hiring New Grad Data Scientists at BMS's Princeton, NJ research campus to work on this critical problem.
Responsibilities
- Analyze spatial transcriptomics data (10x Visium, Nanostring CosMx) from BMS's tumor microenvironment research programs — mapping immune cell interactions that determine immunotherapy response
- Build single-cell RNA-seq analysis pipelines characterizing T-cell exhaustion states, tumor heterogeneity, and immunosuppressive cell populations in patient biopsies
- Develop biomarker classifiers predicting checkpoint inhibitor response using tumor mutation burden, PD-L1 expression, and immune gene expression signatures
- Process multi-omics data integration workflows combining genomics, proteomics, and IHC imaging data for BMS's immuno-oncology biomarker studies
- Build NLP pipelines extracting structured biomarker findings from BMS's clinical study reports and medical literature
- Support BMS's FDA regulatory submissions with data science analyses supporting companion diagnostic development for BMS's checkpoint inhibitor therapies
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or Data Science
- Python and R proficiency for single-cell analysis (Seurat, Scanpy, Squidpy)
- Understanding of tumor immunology, cancer biology, or immunotherapy mechanisms
- Experience with NGS data analysis, spatial omics, or flow cytometry data processing is a plus
- Passion for translating complex genomics data into actionable insights for cancer drug development
Benefits
- Competitive salary with BMS RSU equity and annual bonus
- Work on immuno-oncology science at the forefront of cancer treatment
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits
- 401(k) with BMS matching
- Princeton, NJ campus — beautiful setting with NYC and Philadelphia in commuting distance
