Data Scientist – Bioinformatics (New Grad) – Amgen

Amgen's Computational Biology group uses genomics, proteomics, and AI to accelerate target identification, antibody design, and clinical biomarker discovery. We are hiring New Grad Data Scientists in Thousand Oaks to advance Amgen's bioinformatics and precision medicine capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Build bioinformatics pipelines for RNA-seq, proteomics, and CRISPR screen data analysis — identifying disease-relevant genes and pathways across Amgen's therapeutic programs
- Develop predictive models integrating multi-omics datasets (genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics) to identify biomarkers predicting drug response
- Apply NLP and text mining to extract drug-target interactions, adverse event signals, and mechanism of action insights from scientific literature
- Analyze Amgen's real-world evidence datasets from claims, EHR, and patient registries to support regulatory submissions and label expansions
- Build interactive data visualization dashboards enabling Amgen's research scientists to explore complex multi-omics datasets
- Support clinical biomarker strategy for Amgen's oncology pipeline — identifying patient populations most likely to respond to Amgen's BiTE antibody therapies
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Data Science
- Python and R proficiency for bioinformatics analysis
- Experience with standard bioinformatics tools: DESeq2, STAR, GATK, or equivalent
- Understanding of molecular biology fundamentals and drug discovery concepts
- Familiarity with cloud computing (AWS/GCP) and bioinformatics workflow tools (Nextflow, Snakemake)
