ESG Policy Analyst – Environmental Defense Fund (EDF)

The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is one of the world's most influential environmental organizations with 3+ million members and 700+ scientists, economists, and policy experts working in 28 offices across the US, Europe, and China. EDF's Political Economy program and Corporate Engagement team work directly with Fortune 500 companies and financial institutions to advance corporate climate action, ESG disclosure standards, and market-based environmental solutions. We are hiring an ESG Policy Analyst in Washington, DC to support EDF's work shaping the future of corporate ESG disclosure and sustainable finance policy.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze proposed ESG and climate disclosure regulations (SEC climate rule, ISSB standards, EU CSRD) and assess their environmental effectiveness
  • Support EDF's engagement with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), EPA, and financial regulators on climate risk disclosure policy
  • Research corporate ESG commitments, net-zero pledges, and science-based target quality across Fortune 500 companies
  • Develop policy briefs, comment letters, and testimony supporting robust mandatory ESG disclosure requirements
  • Engage with sustainable finance coalitions, ESG investor coalitions (CERES, PRI, IIGCC) and corporate sustainability networks
  • Track corporate lobbying activities on climate policy and ESG regulations to identify risks and opportunities for EDF engagement

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Policy, Economics, Public Policy, or Law
  • Understanding of US financial regulation, securities law, and ESG disclosure policy landscape
  • Strong policy research and analytical writing skills for regulatory comment letters and briefings
  • Genuine passion for using markets and financial regulation to drive corporate environmental accountability
  • Familiarity with GHG accounting, TCFD, ISSB, and SEC climate disclosure frameworks
