Data Engineer (Entry Level) – Grubhub

Grubhub's data platform processes millions of orders weekly — managing real-time order routing, delivery driver dispatch, and restaurant performance analytics for its national network. We are hiring Entry Level Data Engineers in Chicago to build the data pipelines and analytics infrastructure powering Grubhub's marketplace operations.
Responsibilities
- Build Grubhub's order analytics data pipeline — transforming order lifecycle events (placed, accepted, prepared, dispatched, delivered) into operational dashboards for restaurant and delivery performance teams
- Develop Grubhub's real-time driver dispatch data pipeline — processing GPS location events and delivery completion signals for route optimization and ETA accuracy analysis
- Implement Grubhub's restaurant partner analytics platform — generating restaurant-level performance reports on order volume, delivery time, customer ratings, and menu item popularity
- Build Grubhub's customer segmentation data model — transforming order history, preference, and engagement data for targeted marketing campaigns and loyalty program analytics
- Develop Grubhub's pricing and promotions analytics dataset — evaluating promotional offer performance, discount effectiveness, and customer acquisition cost by campaign
- Implement data quality monitoring using Apache Airflow and dbt ensuring Grubhub's operational data meets freshness and accuracy requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or Software Engineering
- Python and SQL proficiency for data pipeline development
- Familiarity with Apache Airflow, Spark, Kafka, or cloud data warehouse tools
- Understanding of data warehouse design, ELT patterns, and analytical data modeling
- Interest in food delivery, marketplace operations, or logistics data engineering
