Data Engineer – New Grad – Etsy

We are hiring New Grad Data Engineers in Brooklyn to build the data infrastructure supporting Etsy's creative marketplace ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Build Etsy's search and discovery data pipeline — processing buyer search queries, click-through events, and purchase conversions to generate training datasets for Etsy's search ranking ML models
- Develop Etsy's seller analytics data mart — transforming listing performance, shop visits, and conversion metrics into the dashboards sellers rely on to grow their businesses
- Implement Etsy's real-time event pipeline using Google Pub/Sub and Apache Beam — streaming buyer behavior events for Etsy's personalization engine
- Build Etsy's product catalog enrichment pipeline — NLP-based category classification, tag extraction, and image attribute tagging for 100+ million product listings
- Develop Etsy's trust and safety data models — transforming transaction risk signals and seller behavior patterns into fraud detection features for Etsy's risk team
- Implement data quality monitoring using dbt tests and Great Expectations ensuring Etsy's critical analytics datasets meet freshness and accuracy SLAs
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or Statistics
- Python and SQL proficiency; experience with BigQuery, Spark, or Apache Beam is a plus
- Understanding of ELT/ETL patterns, event-driven data, and ML feature engineering concepts
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform data services (BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub)
