Data Engineer – University Graduate – eBay

We are hiring University Graduate Data Engineers in San Jose to build eBay's next-generation data platform.
Responsibilities
- Build eBay's Apache Spark ETL pipelines transforming 100+ billion daily events into analytics-ready datasets for search personalization, seller analytics, and buyer experience teams
- Develop eBay's real-time feature engineering pipelines using Kafka Streams and Flink — computing buyer behavior features for eBay's recommendation ML models
- Implement eBay's data lakehouse on Azure Data Lake using Delta Lake and Apache Iceberg for efficient time-travel queries and incremental data processing
- Build eBay's trust and safety data pipelines — processing transaction signals and seller behavior patterns for fraud detection and counterfeit listing identification
- Develop eBay's search analytics data mart — transforming buyer search query logs and click data into datasets powering eBay's search ranking and autocomplete models
- Implement data quality monitoring using Great Expectations and Soda ensuring pipeline data accuracy across eBay's 200+ critical data assets
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or Software Engineering
- Python and SQL proficiency; Scala or Java for Spark/Flink development is a plus
- Understanding of distributed data processing, stream processing, and data warehouse design
- Familiarity with Apache Spark, Kafka, or Azure data services (Data Factory, Synapse)
- Interest in e-commerce data, marketplace analytics, or recommendation systems
