Job Description

Data Engineer – New Grad – Airbyte

Airbyte is the world's most popular open-source data integration platform, with 10,000+ companies using Airbyte to move data from 350+ source connectors to cloud warehouses and data lakes. Airbyte's community-driven connector catalog is the largest in the industry, with 600+ connectors built by Airbyte's engineering team and open-source contributors. Airbyte Cloud provides fully managed connector hosting; PyAirbyte enables data movement in Python notebooks. With $181M raised from Benchmark and Accel, Airbyte is the fastest-growing company in the data integration space. We are hiring New Grad Data Engineers to build and expand Airbyte's connector ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Build new Airbyte source and destination connectors in Python — implementing REST API integrations, OAuth flows, and incremental sync logic for SaaS data sources
  • Maintain and improve Airbyte's existing 350+ connector library — fixing bugs, improving performance, and handling API schema changes from data source vendors
  • Develop Airbyte's connector testing framework — implementing automated integration tests against live APIs and mock service fixtures
  • Build PyAirbyte data pipelines for Python-native data movement enabling data scientists to use Airbyte connectors directly in Jupyter notebooks
  • Contribute to Airbyte's open-source connector development kit (CDK) — improving the tooling used by 1,000+ open-source connector contributors
  • Write technical documentation and developer guides helping Airbyte's community of 10,000+ self-hosted users implement custom connectors

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Data Engineering
  • Strong Python skills for connector and pipeline development
  • Experience with REST APIs, OAuth authentication, and JSON/CSV data formats
  • SQL proficiency for data modeling and warehouse schema design
  • Open-source development mindset and comfort contributing to public GitHub repositories

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with Airbyte equity (Series B startup)
  • Airbyte Cloud credits and open-source contribution recognition
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • 401(k) with Airbyte matching
  • Remote-friendly hybrid with San Francisco home base and annual company offsites
