Data Engineer (New Grad) – Fivetran

We are hiring New Grad Data Engineers in Oakland to build and maintain the connectors and platform powering the data movement of thousands of companies.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain Fivetran's data connectors in Java — implementing incremental sync logic for SaaS APIs (Salesforce, HubSpot, Shopify) and databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
- Develop Fivetran's schema normalization engine — automatically mapping source schemas to destination cloud data warehouse tables in Snowflake, BigQuery, and Redshift
- Implement change data capture (CDC) pipelines using Debezium and Kafka to replicate real-time database changes from MySQL and PostgreSQL sources
- Build Fivetran's connector reliability testing framework — automated integration tests validating connector accuracy, schema drift handling, and recovery from API rate limits
- Develop Fivetran's data transformation features enabling lightweight SQL transformations after ELT sync completion
- Monitor connector health dashboards and resolve pipeline failures affecting customer data deliveries
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Strong Java or Python programming skills for connector and pipeline development
- Understanding of SQL, relational databases, and API integration patterns
- Familiarity with ETL/ELT concepts, data warehousing, or cloud data platforms
- Detail-oriented mindset for building reliable, accurate data pipelines
