Software Engineer – Backend (New Grad) – Splunk

We are hiring New Grad Backend Engineers in San Francisco to build the data platform turning machine-generated data into business insights and security intelligence.
Responsibilities
- Build Splunk platform backend in Python and C++ — implementing the distributed search engine that queries petabytes of log and machine data in seconds
- Develop Splunk's data ingestion pipeline processing machine data from syslog, S3, Kafka, and 600+ data source technology integrations
- Build Splunk Cloud backend services — implementing multi-tenant data isolation, auto-scaling search capacity, and cross-region data replication
- Implement Splunk Enterprise Security (ES) correlation search engine — building rule execution, threat detection, and SOAR playbook trigger infrastructure
- Develop Splunk Observability backend — implementing APM trace ingestion, infrastructure metrics collection, and Real User Monitoring (RUM) for frontend performance
- Build Splunk's developer platform — REST APIs, SDK libraries, and webhook infrastructure enabling 2,000+ Splunkbase app partners to extend Splunk's capabilities
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Proficiency in Python, C++, Java, or Go
- Understanding of search engines, data processing, or security information management concepts
- Familiarity with distributed systems, MapReduce concepts, or big data processing is a plus
- Interest in cybersecurity, observability, or building data analytics infrastructure used by the world's largest enterprises
