Software Engineer – Backend – Dropbox

Dropbox's infrastructure stores and syncs exabytes of data across AWS S3 and Dropbox's proprietary Magic Pocket storage system — one of the largest private cloud storage infrastructures in the world. Dropbox is also the home of Dropbox Paper, Dropbox Sign (HelloSign), and Dropbox Replay — a growing suite of collaboration tools. We are hiring Backend Software Engineers to build the infrastructure and APIs powering Dropbox's collaboration platform.
Responsibilities
- Build Dropbox core sync backend in Python and Rust — implementing file delta sync algorithms, conflict resolution, and selective sync for desktop and mobile clients
- Develop Dropbox's content ingestion and storage services managing exabytes of user data across Magic Pocket, AWS S3, and Google Cloud Storage
- Build Dropbox Paper collaboration backend — implementing real-time collaborative editing using operational transforms and CRDTs
- Implement Dropbox Sign (eSignature) backend services handling legally binding document workflows, audit trails, and compliance certifications (SOC 2, HIPAA)
- Design APIs and webhooks enabling Dropbox's 500,000+ developer integrations with Slack, Zoom, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365
- Build search and AI features enabling semantic document search, content summarization, and smart file organization across users' Dropbox storage
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Proficiency in Python, Rust, Go, or Java
- Understanding of distributed systems, cloud storage, and file synchronization concepts
- Familiarity with REST APIs, database design, and microservices architecture
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to write clean, well-documented backend code
