Software Engineer – Backend (New Grad) – Coinbase

We are hiring New Grad Backend Engineers to build the crypto-native infrastructure enabling the next chapter of the open financial system.
Responsibilities
- Build backend services in Go and Python powering Coinbase's crypto trading platform — implementing order books, trade matching engines, and portfolio management APIs
- Develop blockchain integration services monitoring Bitcoin, Ethereum, and 200+ blockchain networks for deposit, withdrawal, and confirmation events
- Build Coinbase Prime institutional trading APIs serving hedge funds, asset managers, and corporate treasury teams trading digital assets at scale
- Implement secure key management and cold storage orchestration systems for Coinbase's custody of $130B+ in client crypto assets
- Develop Base L2 blockchain infrastructure — building bridge services, smart contract interaction APIs, and onchain application backends
- Build compliance and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) monitoring services for blockchain transaction surveillance and regulatory reporting
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Strong proficiency in Go or Python (Coinbase's primary backend languages)
- Understanding of cryptography fundamentals, blockchain concepts, or distributed systems
- Familiarity with Ethereum, Bitcoin, or smart contracts is a strong plus
- Commitment to security best practices in financial systems handling customer assets
