Software Engineer – Backend (University Graduate) – DoorDash

We are hiring University Graduate Backend Engineers in San Francisco to solve the hardest real-time logistics optimization problems in consumer technology.
Responsibilities
- Build backend microservices in Kotlin and Go powering DoorDash's order lifecycle — from consumer app checkout through restaurant acceptance to Dasher delivery completion
- Develop real-time dispatch services matching incoming delivery orders to nearby Dashers using geospatial algorithms and ML-predicted delivery times
- Implement restaurant-facing APIs and tablet integration services enabling order-by-order communication between DoorDash platform and 700,000+ merchant POS systems
- Build payment and fraud prevention services handling DoorDash's billions in annual GMV with sub-100ms authorization latency
- Design event-driven systems using Kafka to propagate order state changes across DoorDash's 50+ microservices in real time
- Develop consumer and Dasher notification services delivering timely push notifications, SMS, and in-app updates at scale
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Go, or Python
- Understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and real-time API design
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
- Interest in logistics optimization, marketplace dynamics, or consumer mobile applications
