Software Engineer – Backend (New Grad) – Confluent

We are hiring New Grad Backend Engineers in Mountain View to build the infrastructure powering the real-time data revolution.
Responsibilities
- Build Confluent Cloud platform services in Java and Go — implementing topic management, consumer group coordination, and multi-cloud cluster provisioning
- Contribute to Kafka core broker development — implementing new features for replication, partition leadership, and consumer protocol
- Develop Confluent's Flink-based stream processing platform enabling real-time SQL transformations on Kafka data streams
- Build Schema Registry and data governance services enforcing Avro, JSON, and Protobuf schema compatibility across Kafka producers and consumers
- Implement Confluent's Kafka Connect framework — building managed connectors to sync data between Kafka and databases, data warehouses, and SaaS applications
- Design and build REST APIs exposing Confluent Cloud management capabilities to enterprise customers and integration partners
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Strong proficiency in Java (Kafka's primary language) or Go/Scala
- Understanding of distributed systems, message queues, and event-driven architectures
- Familiarity with Apache Kafka, streaming data, or cloud-native systems is a strong plus
- Solid CS fundamentals and ability to reason about concurrency, consistency, and fault tolerance
