Software Engineer – Backend – Elastic

We are hiring Backend Software Engineers to join Elastic's distributed engineering team building the next generation of the Elastic Stack.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to Elasticsearch's core search engine — implementing new search features, query DSL extensions, and indexing optimizations in Java
- Build Elastic Cloud infrastructure services in Go — implementing auto-scaling, multi-cloud deployment, and cluster orchestration
- Develop Elastic's vector search and kNN capabilities enabling semantic search and AI-powered retrieval augmented generation (RAG)
- Implement data ingestion pipelines (Logstash, Beats) processing logs, metrics, and APM traces from distributed applications
- Build Elastic's security analytics platform — implementing SIEM detections, anomaly detection, and threat intelligence correlation
- Write thorough unit, integration, and benchmark tests validating Elasticsearch's correctness and performance
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Strong proficiency in Java (Elasticsearch's primary language) or Go/Python
- Understanding of search engine fundamentals, inverted indexes, and text analysis
- Familiarity with distributed systems, consensus protocols, and cloud-native infrastructure
- Passion for open-source software and contributing to widely-used developer infrastructure
