Software Engineer – Backend (New Grad) – Datadog

We are hiring New Grad Backend Engineers in New York to build the data pipeline and query engine powering Datadog's industry-leading observability platform.
Responsibilities
- Build high-performance backend services in Go and Python ingesting, processing, and storing 25+ trillion telemetry events daily
- Develop distributed data pipeline components handling metrics, logs, traces, and security events at massive global scale
- Design and optimize query engines enabling sub-second search across petabytes of time-series metrics and log data
- Implement data storage solutions using ClickHouse, Elasticsearch, and Datadog's proprietary time-series database
- Build Kafka consumer pipelines and stream processing systems for real-time telemetry ingestion
- Develop internal tooling and automation improving Datadog's distributed system reliability and engineering productivity
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Strong proficiency in Go, Python, Java, or C++
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems concepts
- Familiarity with databases (SQL/NoSQL), message queues, or stream processing is a plus
- Low-level programming mindset — comfortable with performance optimization and memory management
