Software Engineer – Backend (New Grad) – Okta

We are hiring New Grad Backend Engineers in San Francisco to join Okta's platform engineering teams building the identity layer of the modern enterprise.
Responsibilities
- Build backend services and APIs powering Okta's core authentication, authorization, and user lifecycle management platform
- Write production Java and Kotlin code implementing OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, and SCIM protocols at enterprise scale
- Design and maintain relational data models and database schemas in PostgreSQL for Okta's identity directory and session management
- Develop REST and GraphQL APIs consumed by Okta's 18,000+ enterprise customers and integration ecosystem
- Implement security-critical code following OWASP best practices with thorough code review and automated security testing
- Deploy and operate backend services on AWS using Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform for infrastructure-as-code
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Strong proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Python, or Go
- Understanding of authentication protocols (OAuth, OIDC, SAML) or interest in learning identity security
- Familiarity with SQL databases, REST APIs, and cloud services (AWS/GCP/Azure)
- Security mindset — understanding of secure coding practices and common web vulnerabilities
