Backend Engineer – New Grad – Stripe

We are hiring New Grad Backend Engineers in San Francisco to join Stripe's world-class engineering team and build the financial infrastructure of the future.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs powering Stripe's payment processing infrastructure at global scale
- Write production Ruby and Go code implementing payment flows, webhook delivery systems, and financial reconciliation services
- Build RESTful APIs consumed by millions of developers integrating Stripe into their applications
- Implement robust data models and database schemas in MySQL and Redis for Stripe's financial transaction systems
- Collaborate with Stripe's distributed systems team to improve reliability, latency, and throughput of payment processing pipelines
- Participate in on-call rotations maintaining 99.999% uptime SLAs for Stripe's critical payment infrastructure
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Proficiency in at least one backend language: Ruby, Go, Java, Python, or C++
- Understanding of RESTful API design, database fundamentals, and distributed systems concepts
- Strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, system design
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to correctness — financial systems must be precise
